Delhi to Rajgarh Road Trip Guide: Route, Stops, and Mountain Driving Tips

Planning the Perfect Delhi-to-Rajgarh Drive

For road trip enthusiasts in Delhi, Gurgaon, and Noida, the journey to Rajgarh represents the sweet spot of mountain road trips: it is long enough to feel like a genuine adventure across three states (Delhi, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh), yet short enough to complete comfortably in daylight without driving fatigue.

Covering roughly 369 km, the drive takes approximately 7:30 to 8:00 hours, including leisurely breakfast and fuel stops along the way. Here is our comprehensive insider roadmap to make your drive smooth and memorable.

Leg 1: Delhi to Ambala on NH44 (The Expressway Sprint)

The first 200 km is flat, fast, and multi-lane. Departing Delhi by 5:30 AM allows you to glide past Singhu border and Panipat without traffic delays. By 7:30 AM, you will reach Karnal or Murthal, which are lined with iconic dhabas offering steaming stuffed parathas, white butter, and piping hot chai.

Continue smoothly past Ambala Cantt, following the signposts toward Zirakpur and Chandigarh bypass onto the Himalayan Expressway.

Leg 2: Ascending into the Shivaliks via Himalayan Expressway

Bypassing Chandigarh city traffic entirely, the Himalayan Expressway takes you through Pinjore and Kalka, entering Himachal Pradesh with a gentle, wide climb past Parwanoo. The road here is four-lane and beautifully engineered, climbing steadily toward Dharampur and Kumarhatti.

Take a moment to roll down your windows—the heavy plains air quickly gives way to cool, pine-scented mountain breezes as the altitude climbs past 1,500 meters.

Leg 3: The Kumarhatti to Rajgarh Mountain Highway

This is where the magic begins. At the Kumarhatti bypass (just before Solan), leave the busy Shimla highway and take the state road turning toward Sultanpur, Giri Pul, and Rajgarh.

The road here transitions into a scenic, two-lane hill road with minimal commercial bus traffic. You descend smoothly toward the Giri River bridge (Giri Pul)—a wonderful place to pause for a quick photo and see the clear river water—before ascending gently through terraced hills into Rajgarh and our property in Village Tikkari Tali.

  • Recommended Vehicle: Hatchbacks, sedans, and SUVs all navigate the route comfortably.
  • Offline Maps: Download Google Maps for the Kumarhatti to Rajgarh sector before driving into the hills.
  • Fuel Stops: Top up your tank at Karnal, Ambala, or Dharampur where reliable national highway petrol pumps abound.
